Beginning our adventure at the airport in Houston, Texas
So, I have a confession to make… I’ve never really traveled anywhere. I mean, when we were little kids, my parents would take us to lots of state parks or attractions, but I was too little to remember that. Then, as we got older, my sisters and I became homebodies. The only places I remember going is to Mexico, to my parents’ hometowns. I got to see where they grew up and meet a ton of relatives, but that was a solid decade or more ago. Plus, when you just drive over to your parents’ hometowns with your family and meet people that know of you, it doesn’t really feel like much of an adventure, you know?
So, although I had traveled a bit, this felt like the first time really traveling. I mean, it was even my first time on a plane!
I have to admit that sitting there knowing I was about to be surrounded by nothing but air was starting to get to me. What would it feel like? I had heard so much about your ears popping, turbulence, emergency landings. Would any of that happen today?
Fortunately, I had my sister and a friend to keep me company. I would have been a lot more nervous otherwise. Also, the trip wasn’t a long one. It took us just over 3 hours. I did experience a little discomfort in my ears, like some pressure, but that wasn’t altogether rare since I do have sensitive ears. There was some turbulence, but it wasn’t as bad as I had feared. I can’t really say if it was more than usual, with this being my one and only experience on a plane so far. But I’m sure by the end of this trip, I’ll have a lot more experience on planes! Anyway, I’m looking forward to it all!
